FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - Alfred Ngaro Announces Alignment with New Zealand First
Mr Ngaro said the decision follows a season of reflection on the changing political landscape and the need for experienced, stable leadership capable of delivering meaningful outcomes for New Zealanders.
“NewZeal was established to champion principled leadership grounded in faith, family, national sovereignty, and responsible governance,” Mr Ngaro said. “I remain deeply proud of the movement we built and the conversations we helped shape across the country.”
“However, politics is not static. The environment we are operating in has shifted significantly. Voters are increasingly concerned about economic pressures, institutional trust, social cohesion, and New Zealand’s place in an uncertain world. In such a context, influence and delivery matter.”
Mr Ngaro said that aligning with New Zealand First reflects both strategic realism and shared values.
“New Zealand First has consistently advocated for national sovereignty, the protection of democratic institutions, and policies that put New Zealanders first. There is strong alignment in areas such as support for families, economic pragmatism, accountability in government, and an independent foreign policy.”
He acknowledged the leadership of Winston Peters, describing him as an experienced statesman who understands coalition governance and the importance of negotiating outcomes in the national interest.
“In a fragmented political environment, experience and institutional strength are essential. This transition allows me to contribute within a framework that has both parliamentary presence and proven capacity to influence policy.”
Mr Ngaro emphasised that the move does not represent a change in his convictions.
“My values remain unchanged. I have always believed in principled leadership, responsible stewardship of public resources, strengthening families, and protecting freedoms. This is not a departure from those convictions, it is an transition in how they maybe carried forward .”
He also expressed gratitude to those who supported NewZeal.
“To every supporter, volunteer, and donor, thank you. Your belief in a values-based political movement has not been misplaced. The relationships built and the kaupapa advanced will continue to shape my contribution going forward.”
Mr Ngaro said New Zealand faces significant challenges in the years ahead, including economic recovery, restoring trust in public institutions, addressing cost-of-living pressures, and navigating complex geopolitical realities.
“Our nation requires leadership that is steady, mature, and capable of balancing conviction with pragmatism. I believe this alignment strengthens my ability to serve New Zealand effectively in this next season.”
He concluded by reaffirming his commitment to public service.
“My heart remains to serve, to contribute constructively, to speak with integrity, and to work toward a New Zealand that is confident, sovereign, and united.”
